The Montclair Historical Society welcomes people who are interested in using our collections to conduct historical research, find out about the history of their home, or discover their genealogical roots. You may schedule an appointment to use the research library during normal operating hours, Tuesday through Friday 9 AM – 1 PM. We ask that a $5 donation be made to the Montclair Historical Society if you come in to use the research library. Montclair Historical Society members may use the research library for free.
If you are unable to visit the research library, the Montclair Historical Society will be happy to perform research for you upon request. A simple search request or inquiry can be made by email at mail@montclairhistorical.org.
For more extensive research requests, you may download a research request form and Montclair Historical Society staff will perform the research to the best of our abilities. The Montclair Historical Society charges $20 for the first hour of research performed. Each additional hour is $20 for nonmembers, $10 for members. Research charges include up to 25 photocopies and postage. If our initial research shows extensive results, additional charges will be requested to cover photocopying and postage costs. You will be contacted before the expenses are incurred.
Research fees can be paid by mail in check with the research request form, or credit card or PayPal on our website under the “Donate Now.”
