General Information

The Society's two primary functions are education and historic preservation. In fulfillment of its purpose, the Society serves as a community and educational center, stimulating knowledge and appreciation of the region's history. Permanent and temporary exhibits are open to the general public every Sunday from mid-September through mid-June. In addition, throughout the year, the Society organizes special events, group and school tours of the Crane House, group tours of Evergreens, classes for children and adults, lectures, and history roundtable and panel discussions.

The Terhune Library

The Terhune Library is a noncirculating research collection, open to any student, scholar, or interested person wishing to learn more about the history of Montclair and the surrounding area. The library is housed in the Clark House, adjacent to the Society's Crane House Museum. The Library's focus includes the history of Montclair, history of New Jersey, genealogy of area families, decorative arts, historic skills, gardens and herbs, cookbooks, and books written by Montclair-based authors. Holdings are full catalogued. The Terhune Library has a close relationship with the Montclair Public Library at http://www.montlib.com, particularly in the area of local history.
