Looking for something else to do with your smart phone? Try downloading podcasts on history. Colonial Williamburg’s podcasts (you can download them on iTunes) cover far-ranging topics from “Meet the Tailor” to “Arming the Continent.” Each podcast runs about 12 to 15 minutes long. They’re a great source of information about the 18th century, presented in an engaging format.
We’ve also just heard about UnCommon History, a series of free 4-minute long podcasts that focus on early New Jersey history. Recent podcasts have covered Joe Medwick, hall of fame baseball player from Carteret; applying to Rutgers Medical College in 1825; and Madame
Washington’s beauty care empire. You can either stream the podcasts at the website of the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage
Commission or subscribe for free on iTunes. New podcasts come up every month.
